How did the “Quartieridee” come about?
In autumn 2018, the associations Nextzürich and Urban Equipe, in consultation with the Wipkingen district association, drew up a detailed concept paper for a participatory budget process for neighbourhood projects in Zurich. The proposal to test such a process was then submitted to the Office of Urban Development Zurich. The test run aims to show whether and how the neighbourhood population would participate, what role the neighbourhood actors, the city administration and politicians could play in this, and what open questions could be answered or new ones asked. The urban development department took up the proposal and decided to accompany and financially support a pilot project.
The Urban Equipe is in charge of the project management. The Nextzürich association and other civil society institutions are supporting the project with various events in the neighbourhood. Further information on the sponsorship and the actors involved can be found here.
